Day 2 – Fez

Morocco Family TourFez is considered one of the most important spiritual cities in the Islamic world, after Mecca and Medina. Founded in the early 9th century by Moulay Idriss II, it has remained remarkably preserved and has long served as a center of government, philosophy, medicine, and religion.

Often regarded as the best-preserved example of an ancient Arab city, Fez consists of the “new city,” established in the 12th century, and the historic 2,000-year-old medina. Within the medina, donkeys and mules still carry goods through a maze of narrow lanes, hidden alleyways, and bustling souks filled with the aromas of spices and traditional Moroccan delicacies.

Fez is also an ideal place to experience traditional craftsmanship and shop for handwoven carpets, artisan goods, and locally made souvenirs. Visit the famous leather tanneries, where rows of colorful dyeing vats create a striking mosaic of vibrant tones. Finally, climb to the Merenid Tombs for a breathtaking panoramic view over the city.
